Atlético Madrid are in talks for Johnny Cardoso

Atlético Madrid are on the lookout for a new midfield addition. Initially, their sights were set on Guido Rodríguez from Betis, whose contract is ending soon. However, it seems the Argentine might be leaning towards FC Barcelona’s offer.

The sports management team is weighing various options to strengthen the midfield, and it seems they’re considering revisiting Benito Villamarín for potential solutions.

According to info from TodoFichajes, Johnny Cardoso is emerging as Diego Pablo Simeone’s preferred choice. The USA international arrived last winter as an emergency signing and has quickly earned a significant role under Manuel Pellegrini’s guidance.

Interestingly, the Chilean coach is hesitant to negotiate his player’s departure, but Betis’ financial issues could influence the club’s decision. Talks between Atlético Madrid and Betis have already begun, with a deal potentially reaching up to €30 million.

This demonstrates a high level and potential that is starting to attract the interest of some of Spain and Europe’s biggest clubs. Knowing this, Betis have already valued the midfielder, who arrived in January for €6 million, at around €30 million.

Betis Value Johnny Cardoso at €30 Million

The aforementioned source states that although Real Betis know they have a gem on their hands, which seems destined to increase in value, the club is not ruling out accepting a “lower” offer for Johnny Cardoso, currently valuing him at an approximate amount of €30 million.

This amount would be considered “lower” because his release clause is set at €80 million, an amount that practically no club would be willing to pay.

Due to their delicate financial situation and the fact that Cardoso is only registered for six months, with the commitment to free up salary space to register him as their own this summer, Betis is not ruling out a sale if they receive an offer in this range.

Diario de Sevilla assures that there will be no shortage of suitors for Johnny Cardoso this summer, with teams such as FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig, and some Premier League and Serie A clubs closely monitoring him.

However, according to this source and also Brazilian media like Globo Esporte, no concrete offers have been made for the American yet.

Internacional Holds 20% of Future Johnny Cardoso Sale

Real Betis are not the only club optimistic about this potential sale, as his former club, Internacional de Porto Alegre, still holds 20% of the player’s rights, and if Betis sell him for a sum close to €30 million, the Colorado club would pocket around €6 million for Cardoso.
