AC Milan slap hefty price tag on Theo Hernandez

With Theo Hernandez’s future in Lombardy uncertain, AC Milan have set an eye-watering asking price for the French international.

Theo Hernandez: a summer headache for the Rossoneri?

Considered one of the best players in his position in Serie A for several seasons, Theo Hernandez (26) is not short of suitors. Among them is Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich. The new manager of the Bavarian giants is looking to restore the Rekordmeister to its former glory, and this will require an ambitious transfer window. In search of a quality left-back, the former Red Devil has reportedly set his sights on the French international (27 caps, 2 goals) to also compensate for the possible departure of Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid.

But what are AC Milan’s intentions in this regard?

Appearing before the Italian press to announce the arrival of Paulo Fonseca as coach, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in his role as the Lombard club’s main advisor, had assured that no major departures were expected during the next summer transfer window, directly mentioning the situation of Theo Hernandez. However, the player himself has taken a very different line to the Swede. Invited on Saturday to speak about his future to the media gathered in Paderborn, the French national team player was at best evasive.

A three-figure sum for Theo Hernandez!

“I’m 100% focused on the Euros. Whether I stay at Milan or leave, we’ll see later. Play in Spain again? No, I’m not thinking about that yet. I’m focused on the Euros,” said the younger brother of Lucas Hernandez.

While the Marseille native tried to deflect the attention in the press conference, he does not seem completely ruled out a departure from AC Milan this summer, a club he has now been with since 2019. Faced with the possibility of losing one of its key players during the summer transfer window, AC Milan have decided to set Theo Hernandez’s asking price at at least 100 million euros, according to Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday.

This eye-watering sum is mainly intended to cool the ardour of the former Madrilenian’s suitors and seems to be out of reach of Bayern Munich at the moment. At the same time, the Italian media adds that the Italian vice-champions are well-intentioned to keep the 26-year-old beyond June 2026, when his contract expires. But to do so, the Lombard club will have to meet the demands of the 2022 world vice-champion to extend his contract. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri’s number 19 is reportedly demanding an annual salary of 7 million euros, the same amount as the other star of the Italian squad, Rafael Leao.
