Mohamed Salah was one of the first names mentioned by Barcelona president Joan Laporta when he took charge of the club. Barça was looking to rebuild in the summer of 2022 with several top-level signings and the club sounded out the Egyptian winger, but his high demands and the amount of money the English club wanted for him made a move impossible. In the end, Lewandowski and several other signings arrived, and now Salah’s contract is coming to an end and he is open to offers. The relationship with Barça remains open and his performance is attracting attention as, despite his age of 32, he is shining in the Premier League.
Xavi Hernández had previously mentioned Salah’s name when looking for game-changing players who could benefit Barça. At the time, the Egyptian was in negotiations to renew his contract and listened to Barça, but nothing came of it because the amounts being discussed were in the millions. Salah is on a salary close to €15 million gross per season and hopes to sign his last big contract from June 30th onwards.
Salah would be willing to move and likes Barça. The Catalan club is clear about this. As much as they are clear in the sports department about wanting to strengthen the team with a game-changing winger. The priority is Nico Williams, but the Egyptian’s name has now reached the Camp Nou offices and they are clear that now the operation would be feasible. Another thing is what profile the Barcelona team is looking for to improve a team that is firing on all cylinders in the attacking area.
Liverpool have already made it clear to Salah that they want to renew his contract so that he can finish his career at the highest level in the Premier League. This season he has nine goals and seven assists in 15 games, which makes it clear that he is still a top-level player worldwide. Liverpool also know that Saudi Arabia is going all out for the winger, but it remains to be seen what he decides. His name is back in the spotlight at Barça.
