Double blow for Celta Vigo ahead of Real Madrid clash

Carlo Ancelotti’s team will travel to Vigo to face the Galician side in the next round of LaLiga EA Sports.

Claudio Giráldez will be without both Iago Aspas and Ilaix Moriba for the upcoming league match against Real Madrid. Celta is considering appealing to the Appeals Committee after the Competition Committee issued its ruling. The committee has not accepted the appeal filed by the Galician club to try to overturn the yellow cards shown to their captain and the former Barcelona player in the match against UD Las Palmas (0-1 for Celta), which resulted in the expulsion of both players after receiving a second yellow card.

WITHOUT ILAIX MORIBA…

The Competition Committee considers that the video evidence presented by Celta to prove that Ilaix Moriba did not bring down his opponent in the match is not sufficient to overturn the caution. “The truth is that the images brought to the proceedings as video evidence do not prove that the conduct determining both cautions did not occur in the terms and to the extent required to consider the existence of a manifest material error.” The midfielder, on loan from RB Leipzig, has been suspended for one match due to a second yellow card and subsequent red card, along with a fine of €350 for the club and €600 for the offender. He was the player with the most hope, according to Cadena SER, so they are considering appealing his case to the Appeals Committee.

… AND WITHOUT ASPAS

As for Iago Aspas’s expulsion, both yellow cards were shown for clearly protesting. The Committee is clear: “It is not necessary for the referee to identify, express or describe in every case which decision each and every protest that players sometimes utter would be linked to.” The Celta captain, therefore, will also be unavailable to face Real Madrid next Saturday, the 19th, at Balaídos.
