Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo, forced off during Sunday’s Catalan derby against Girona (4-1), has suffered a muscular injury to his right thigh that will keep him out of action for at least four weeks, the club announced on Monday.
“Dani Olmo has suffered an injury to the biceps femoris in his right thigh. The estimated time out will be between 4 and 5 weeks,” the Catalan club said in a brief statement.
The Spanish playmaker will therefore miss Barcelona’s upcoming matches, including the first two Champions League group stage games against AS Monaco this Thursday and Young Boys on October 1st, as well as the upcoming international break in mid-October. Having scored his third goal in three matches on Sunday against Girona, the European champion with Spain, who arrived this summer from RB Leipzig, was forced off grimacing in the 61st minute, replaced by Eric Garcia.
This absence is another blow for German coach Hansi Flick, who is already without Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Andreas Christensen.
