Real Madrid are delighted with Bayern Munich’s stance in the ‘Davies deal’: he could be their next Alaba

Alphonso Davies’ name has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital all summer.

The Bernabéu outfit are in no rush to sign the Canadian left-back, as he’ll be available on a free transfer in 2025.

Davies, currently at Bayern Munich, is highly regarded at Real Madrid and has been the subject of discussions. In fact, figures like Juni Calafat and José Ángel Sánchez have been working behind the scenes to make the deal happen.

However, they’ve done so in a calm and collected manner. They know his contract expires in 2025 and that he’s keen to join Real Madrid. He’s a smart individual, there’s no doubt about it.

All this is happening while Ferland Mendy is firmly established as the first-choice left-back at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Ancelotti considers Mendy the best defensive left-back in the world, so, to be honest, signing Davies isn’t an absolute priority.

Florentino, delighted

Florentino Pérez is more than happy for Alphonso to join in 2025. A free transfer is the perfect scenario, which fully explains Real Madrid’s strategy.

It’s no secret, to the president or the fans, that players like Davies, Antonio Rüdiger, and Kylian Mbappé have joined Real Madrid in this way.

It’s truly impressive to pull off deals like this, especially when clubs like PSG and Manchester City have so much financial power. It proves that Real Madrid’s greatness is priceless. Most players dream of playing for the club.

Bayern Munich aren’t learning

They did the same with Alaba, and it looks like they’re about to repeat the mistake with Davies. Bayern seem unable to learn from their errors. They’re stubborn and proud, but they’re setting themselves up for another loss.

In this case, they’re demanding around €50 million for the player. Real Madrid, on the other hand, are sticking to their valuation of €30 million, which is a fair price for a player out of contract in a few months who has turned down multiple renewal offers.

Bayern are refusing to budge and meet Real Madrid’s demands. However, Florentino Pérez isn’t fazed and isn’t feeling any pressure to increase his offer. In this tug-of-war that Bayern want to create, there’s only one potential loser: Bayern Munich.

The wait isn’t a problem

Waiting a year isn’t a concern for Real Madrid. Plus, Davies is only 23, so he has his whole career ahead of him. In fact, I’d say it’s a win-win situation, as the squad will continue to strengthen at no cost. Meanwhile, Bayern will lose money. Pride can be a bad thing, and this is a clear example of that.

The player has made it clear that he wants a new challenge. So it’s hard to understand Bayern’s stance, especially considering they’re a club that used to operate in a similar way to Real Madrid. I can’t imagine the current European champions holding onto one of their players against their will. If that happened, the club president would face criticism.

That’s why it’s surprising that Bayern are falling into this trap, especially as it’s not the first time they’ve been in this situation. Real Madrid have been clear and haven’t increased their offer, as they’ve made clear since the transfer window opened.

All tied up

In football, as in life, anything can happen. Remember what happened with Mbappé in 2022, although that situation was unique due to the circumstances.

So, at the Bernabéu, confidence in signing Davies is high. In January, he’ll be free to sign for any club, but the feeling is one of great calm. Important figures at the club believe Davies will remain committed to his dream of joining the Spanish capital.

In fact, some suggest the player is particularly excited about the prospect of forming a left-wing partnership with Vinicius and Mbappé. It would be a formidable attacking trio and a real threat to opponents.

Thanks to social media, we’ve already seen that he has a good relationship with Real Madrid’s number 7, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s been asking about the club and the lifestyle in Madrid. If he wants to know more, he’ll only have to wait a few months. In the meantime, Ancelotti is delighted with Ferland Mendy and Fran García. However, if Davies remains committed to his plan, Florentino will make the move and sign him without paying Bayern a penny. What a deal and what great management.”
