A new twist in the tale regarding Clément Lenglet’s future at FC Barcelona? According to El Desmarque, Barcelona are considering offering the French international (15 caps) a contract extension if he remains at the club after this transfer window. Pushed towards the exit door, Lenglet is on the radar of Atlético Madrid. However, the Catalan and Madrid clubs are struggling to reach a definitive agreement, with just a few days remaining in the transfer window.
FC Barcelona’s plan, if Lenglet stays, is to extend his contract on a lower salary. The former AS Nancy-Lorraine player currently earns €16 million a year in Catalonia. Mired in various financial problems, Barça still need to register several players in their squad, including new signing Dani Olmo.
An extension for the 29-year-old defender, in addition to the imminent departures of İlkay Gündoğan and Vitor Roque, should allow Joan Laporta’s club to achieve their objectives.
