Naploil: Antonio Conte furious in press conference

Conte set to take charge at Napoli after agreement on 3-year deal

Extremely disappointed after Napoli’s defeat against Verona on Sunday evening, Antonio Conte did not mince his words in the post-match press conference. The Neapolitans lost 3-0 away to Hellas Verona in their first Serie A match under the fiery Italian coach, who couldn’t hide his disappointment.

“We must humbly apologize to the Neapolitan people who follow us with passion. I am the coach and it is normal that I take full responsibility. In the second half, the performance was unacceptable. It’s a shame, and as the coach, I should be ashamed. Those who know me know that my heart is bleeding today,” declared the former Juventus coach, with notable restraint.

Extremely upset with his team, the 55-year-old coach deemed his players’ performance “unacceptable” while taking full responsibility for the defeat. Conte did not, however, seek excuses and did not want to hide behind the club’s as-yet unsuccessful transfer market, partly due to the Osimhen situation which is currently blocking Napoli’s finances.

There could, however, be some good news on the horizon for Antonio Conte as Napoli are reportedly close to signing David Neres, one of the priorities requested by the Italian.
