In his first press conference of the new season, which kicks off tomorrow, Luis Enrique was questioned about finding a successor to Kylian Mbappé at PSG.
Kylian Mbappé has left PSG for Real Madrid
After seven years of loyal service, Kylian Mbappé left Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of the summer transfer window. A free agent as of June 30th, the 25-year-old striker joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, signing a five-year contract until June 2029. The captain of the French national team has already celebrated his debut with Los Blancos with a goal in the European Super Cup on Wednesday night against Atalanta Bergamo.
The page has therefore definitely been turned between Kylian Mbappé and PSG, who will now have to learn to live without the top scorer in the history of the Rouge et Bleu. This summer, big names have been linked with the Parisian club to succeed the Bondy-born player, but with two weeks left in the transfer window, no star has yet signed. A situation that is beginning to worry some supporters, but not coach Luis Enrique who has his own idea about the right way to compensate for Mbappé’s absence from his squad.
Luis Enrique relies on the collective to forget Mbappé
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, on the eve of the trip to the Stade Océane to face Le Havre AC, Luis Enrique set the tone for PSG’s attack without Kylian Mbappé. And the least we can say is that the Spanish coach is delighted to be able to now rely on the collective rather than the constant search for a single player on the pitch.
“Before we were all looking for the same player in attack (Mbappé), now a range of possibilities is open to us with players capable of playing in several positions and for me that’s very interesting,” said Luis Enrique before explaining his vision of the collective attack.
“With the departure of Mbappé who scores more than 40 goals per season, what is the solution? The one I can find. If a player can score as many goals, we won’t close the door. But from my experience, it’s better to have 4 players who score 12 goals, that makes 48 and not 40.”
According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos want to stay at PSG next season. The management has no intention of pushing them out this summer. Luis Enrique believes that the players will have a better season than the previous one. PSG is considering recruiting a winger capable of supplying the attackers. Hence the imminent arrival of Désiré Doué (Rennes) and the probable arrival of Jadon Sancho (Manchester United).
