Shock move for Madrid: Chelsea deal falls through as Wolves swoop in, it’s official

Wolves have stolen a march on their rivals and secured one of the most promising signings of the summer so far. Real Madrid had been tracking the player but decided against a move due to interest in other transfer targets. The player in question is young Brazilian footballer Pedro Lima.

The 17-year-old right-back, who plays for Sport Recife, was one of the players Chelsea had earmarked for their squad next season.

However, the Blues have been gazumped for the young Brazilian: “Official: Wolves have completed the signing of Pedro Lima from Sport Recife despite a verbal agreement with the BlueCo group (Chelsea) last week. Sport Recife announce the agreement reached with Wolves for the Brazilian right-back born in 2006,” Fabrizio Romano explains on his social media channels.

“A club statement from Sport Recife confirms the deal,” Romano adds. BlueCo, which acquired Chelsea over a year ago, has lost out on one of the most promising young talents in South American football.

However, this does not seem to be a major problem for Chelsea, but it does highlight two things. Firstly, that the financial clout of Premier League clubs, even those in the mid-table, is continuing to rise. And secondly, that Real Madrid has set a trend for anticipating the market and going to the player’s home country to secure the best young players for the future.
