Real Madrid have announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe

After seven years in the capital, the Bondy native has chosen to leave Les Rouge et Bleu and Ligue 1. At 25, the French genius joins his other dream club: Real Madrid.

This time, it’s the right one for Real Madrid. Free of any contract after seven years at Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé is leaving France and Ligue 1, his now former playing ground where he excelled with Monaco and the capital club (191 goals, 74 assists in 246 matches with Paris and ASM). At 25, the man who wore number 7 for Les Rouge et Bleu has finally decided in favor of Los Blancos.

“Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons,” can be read in the statement published by the Merengue club, recent winner of the 15th Champions League in its history. The long-awaited arrival of PSG’s all-time top scorer (256 goals in 307 matches, all competitions) in Madrid marks the end of a very long saga during which Los Blancos were mistreated like never before.

The end of a very long saga

In 2021, Florentino Pérez had tried to recruit the French world champion by offering more than €100m a year from the end of the player’s contract. In vain, a categorical refusal from a PSG ready to take the risk of seeing its best player leave for free a year later. This had greatly degraded relations between the two clubs. For his part, Mbappé also had a hard time taking the blow. In 2022, all of Madrid finally thought they could welcome a Mbappé delivered from his Qatari chains.

They didn’t know the persuasive power of QSI’s fortune. To everyone’s surprise, the Bondy native extended his lease on May 21, 2022 after hinting that he was going to join the Madrid giants, thus giving a huge uppercut to the Merengues. In the face of such an affront, the Madrid train would never come back, it was said in the Spanish capital. Two years later, the train arrived on time, at the station, to welcome a very quickly forgiven Mbappé. A year after announcing to PSG that he was not going to extend his contract, while agreeing to give up juicy bonuses (we are talking about an amount of more than €100m) to save the Parisian club from a financial fiasco, Kylian Mbappé will therefore be able to fulfill his dream.
