San Diego FC is determined to sign Sergio Ramos, with the American team set to make an irresistible offer to the Spanish center-back ahead of their MLS debut in the 2025 season. The lucrative contract is likely to prove too tempting for Sevilla, who will find it difficult to match such financial terms. At 38 years old, Ramos appears poised for a move to the MLS in pursuit of his final major contract.
Sevilla’s Captain Facing Departure
Ramos, one of Sevilla’s captains, is edging closer to an exit from the Sánchez Pizjuán. Of the four captains who began the season at the Andalusian club, only two remain, and it’s almost a miracle that the former Real Madrid star is not the only one left. Fernando Reges (Vila Nova FC) and Ivan Rakitić (Al Shabbab) departed in January as free agents, while Jesús Navas initially threatened to leave but ultimately decided to stay for another year.
Sevilla’s Offer: 4 Million Euros
Despite his age, Ramos has played a significant role for Sevilla. This season, he has featured in 37 matches across all competitions, accumulating 3,301 minutes of playing time, scoring seven goals, providing one assist, and receiving ten yellow cards and one red card.
However, the MLS presents a tempting alternative. San Diego FC is offering Ramos triple his current salary, a staggering 12 million euros for a one-year contract. Even in the United States, this offer is considered extravagant, with the understanding that such a sum would be more reasonable for a two- or three-year deal.
Potential Exodus of Captains
If Ramos also decides to leave, three of the four captains will have departed almost simultaneously, leaving only Jesús Navas. Undoubtedly, a busy summer lies ahead for Sevilla’s offices, who will need to recruit leaders for García Pimienta’s plan, with the European Championship looming.
