PSG forgets about Frenkie de Jong

Barça has reason to breathe a little easier. For months they have known that Frenkie de Jong’s future is surrounded by numerous uncertainties. As we have been reporting punctually, the Dutch midfielder, for now, has preferred to put off everything related to a possible contract extension. De Jong is comfortable in his current situation while Barça is still waiting to open a negotiating process in the midst of an increasingly convulsive market.

Nothing is clear about Frenkie’s future. The midfielder has been stalling Barça for some time when it comes to negotiating a new contract, a period that has served to fuel all sorts of rumors about the clubs that could be interested in signing the Dutchman. Important offers that could take him from Barcelona to France, Germany or England.

Regarding the possible offers for De Jong, one has been especially worrying in Can Barça. A few months ago, Frenkie’s agent was formally informed that PSG was considering a major overhaul of its midfield. Luis Enrique’s team was planning to facilitate several departures to free up salary space and margin with which to storm the market. Frenkie de Jong was one of the targets of the Spanish coach and Luis Campos, sporting advisor to PSG.

The scenario has changed substantially. PSG will focus most of its financial resources on replacing Mbappé, shoring up the wings and touching up the defense – they have already signed goalkeeper Safonov-. The coaches understand that the growth experienced by Vitinha in the final stretch of the season deserves a vote of confidence and that it is not essential to bring in another player with a similar profile.

PSG will not knock on Barça’s door to present a transfer offer for De Jong. The Parisian claim is no longer on the future board of a player who has been silent and who now only focuses on his full recovery and the European Championship.

Premier and Bundesliga, waiting in the wings

The other big suitors are also keeping a discreet silence. The news from Munich is contradictory in the midst of the changing of the guard on the bench. With Vincent Kompany’s reports yet to be seen, it seems that the Teutonic club’s interest has frozen.

And in England, more or less the same thing is happening. Manchester United continue their efforts to lighten the squad until they balance the numbers and finally decide whether to keep Ten Hag or bet on a new tenant. De Jong is liked, but the high price of a possible transfer and the internal chaos are slowing down any approach at this stage of the year.
