Good news for Barça in the ‘Kimmich operation’

FC Barcelona’s interest in Joshua Kimmich for next season is no secret. The German was one of Xavi Hernández’s preferred targets in the pivot position in the center of the field if he were to continue on the Barça bench, and the change of coach from the Catalan to Hansi Flick seems that it will not change the plans of the Barça sporting director.

The recent drop in the Teutonic market value presents itself as a unique opportunity for Barça to negotiate more forcefully with Bayern. Kimmich, whose value has fallen 10 million euros to 50 million, is 29 years old and his contract expires on June 30, 2025, so it is the last chance for the Bavarians to cash in if the midfielder does not want to renew.

This price adjustment in Transfermarkt could make negotiations with Bayern Munich a little more accessible, especially considering that the German club is not usually an easy seller, especially of its key players. The best example is from two summers ago, when Barça sweated blood to make Lewandowski their star signing for the summer of 2022 (45 million plus five in variables) when the Pole, like Kimmich, only had one more year of contract with the Bavarians.

Kimmich’s contract and the flick factor

Negotiations to close Joshua Kimmich’s contract, who does not have an agent and represents himself, will not be easy. As SPORT has advanced, the German player’s financial demands are far from Barça’s initial offer. The midfielder currently earns 19.5 million euros gross in Germany, a figure that is too high for the current situation of the Blaugrana club, which still does not have financial fair play and still does not operate under the 1:1 rule.

Hansi Flick, who knows Kimmich perfectly from his time at Bayern Munich, is a strong advocate for his signing. Under Flick’s management, Kimmich not only established himself as a key player for the Bavarian team, but also became one of the best midfielders in the world. Flick, now on the Barça bench, is convinced that Kimmich can be a crucial player for the Catalan team, contributing his experience, leadership and technical quality.

However, the economic reality of FC Barcelona is a significant limitation and the operation will be left to the club’s maneuvering margin when it comes to spending finally this summer. For now, the good news is that Deco, Laporta and Yuste will be able to negotiate with Bayern with the trump card of the German’s drop in value.
