Barcelona has already begun prioritizing signings for the new sports project once Xavi Hernandez’s departure was confirmed. The sporting director, Deco, and the incoming coach, Hansi Flick, have already agreed on the roadmap for planning, and there’s one piece that remains untouched in terms of incorporations. That’s Kimmich, the versatile midfielder from Bayern, who becomes a top priority target in the market.
Barcelona attempted to sign Kimmich last summer, but the club’s economic situation didn’t allow for much enthusiasm. The deal couldn’t be sealed, and Xavi had also requested and even sounded out the player for this transfer window. Now, conditions are right in case Barça has a salary cap, as Kimmich’s contract expires in 2025 and he hasn’t renewed, so Bayern will open the door to a sale.
Flick knows Kimmich perfectly well as he was one of his stalwarts at Bayern who managed to win the Champions League. The German coach believes he can convince him to accept the Blaugrana offer, and the club is working to make his signing possible for less than 40 million euros. Both Deco and Flick consider the arrival of a top-notch midfielder as the main objective to bring balance to the team.
For now, Kimmich has been listening to Barça, but he will prioritize Bayern. The player wanted to have a chat with the team’s new coach and the sporting direction to verify his role in the team. He doesn’t want to play in the full-back position and is waiting for the latest contract offer. If the two parties don’t reach an agreement, as it seems, Barça will have many options to sign him.
Kimmich has also received inquiries from PSG and several Premier League teams, but if he leaves Bayern, his idea is to play for Barça. And Flick could bring him even closer. The Blaugrana club must do their homework in the coming weeks to meet the 1-1 rule, and it all depends on sealing a big sale. They are working on it, and there could be news in early June.
Kimmich’s arrival will be parallel to the signing of Guido Rodríguez. Flick has given the green light to the acquisition of the Argentine midfielder in an operation considered interesting as he arrives on a free transfer. Everything is agreed with Guido, pending the signing of a contract for two seasons plus an optional one.
