Arsenal vs Everton: Probable Lineups

The tension is electric at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday. A gleaming Premier League trophy awaits the winner of the clash between Arsenal and Everton, with victory for the Gunners potentially crowning them champions.

There’s a slight twist, however. Arsenal’s fate isn’t entirely in their own hands. They need Manchester City to stumble against West Ham too. Some Arsenal fans, fondly nicknamed “Gooners,” have already started to brace themselves for another runner-up finish.

Speaking of familiar sights, Arsenal fans might be holding their breath yet again. Young winger Bukayo Saka limped off the pitch at Old Trafford after a nasty collision with the advertising boards. Thankfully, it seems like a minor knock, and he’s expected to be back on his usual right wing this Sunday.

The bigger question mark hangs over the return of Jurrien Timber. The talented defender has been out with a long-term ACL injury, but his recent return to action for the Under-21s has fans hopeful. However, he hasn’t been included in the matchday squad for the last three games, so his involvement this weekend remains a mystery.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, the Japanese full-back, has been filling in admirably at left-back and is likely to keep his place for a fifth consecutive game if Timber doesn’t make it.

Meanwhile, Everton will be sweating on the fitness of midfielder Andre Gomes. They were so close to a clean sheet win over Sheffield United, only for Gomes to take a nasty blow to the face in injury time. His participation at the Emirates is now in doubt.

Even without Gomes, Everton manager Sean Dyche already has a selection headache. Dele Alli, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Jack Harrison, and Nathan Patterson are all sidelined with injuries. The latter’s absence is a double blow, as it also scuppers his chances of playing for Scotland at Euro 2024.

While exciting youngsters like Lewis Dobbin, Chermiti, and Lewis Warrington are pushing for a chance, Dyche is likely to go with a more experienced line-up for such a crucial game.

Here’s a look at the possible starting lineups for both teams:

Arsenal: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Trossard

Everton: Pickford; Coleman, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young; Garner, Onana, Gueye, McNeil; Doucoure; Calvert-Lewin
