Paulo Fonseca is considering whether or not to sign with Marseille

Paulo Fonseca, the current coach of Lille, is the top target for Marseille next season. However, the Portuguese coach is still unsure about agreeing to join Marseille. This uncertainty arises as he is also being pursued by AC Milan, who are considering him to succeed Stefano Pioli.

After an impressive season with Lille, Paulo Fonseca is one of the most sought-after coaches at the moment. His contract with Lille is ending soon, indicating a high probability of him leaving the club. Marseille has identified him as their top choice to succeed Jean-Louis Gasset next season. Discussions between Marseille’s sporting director, Pablo Longoria, and Fonseca are already underway, with some reports suggesting that a preliminary agreement has been reached. Journalist Daniele Longo from Calcio Mercato has confirmed significant discussions between Marseille and Paulo Fonseca.

Longo also reveals that there has been a tentative agreement on the contract duration and salary for Fonseca. However, Fonseca has not given his final approval to sign with Marseille. The situation is still fluid, with AC Milan also expressing interest in him. In the last few hours, AC Milan has been deliberating between Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao, who is likely to leave FC Porto after André Villas-Boas assumes the presidency.

Fonseca is keeping everyone guessing until the end of the season. According to Calcio Mercato journalist, “Fonseca hasn’t signed anything yet because he also wants to wait for AC Milan’s decision, which is expected in the coming hours.” The situation is expected to be resolved soon, although Fonseca himself stated after his team’s victory against Nantes that he won’t make any decisions before the end of the season. He said, “Will I experience other emotions next year with Lille? (laughs) I’ll decide after the last match. Today was very important for us. We are a family, and this victory was very significant.” Fonseca might reveal his future plans after Lille’s final game against Nice in the last round of Ligue 1 matches next Sunday.
