Gasperini’s Dream Run Continues: Atalanta Reach First European Final!

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has etched his name even deeper into club folklore, guiding La Dea to their first-ever European final! A dominant 3-0 win (4-1 on aggregate) against Marseille in the Europa League semi-final sealed the deal.

The first leg was a tight affair, but Atalanta took complete control at home. They should have been more than a goal ahead at half-time after Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere went close. The breakthrough finally came midway through the first half, with Ademola Lookman’s curling shot taking a lucky deflection off Samuel Gigot before finding the back of the net.

Marseille had a golden chance to level things up after the break, but Iliman Ndiaye somehow missed an open goal with the keeper stranded! That miss proved costly, as Matteo Ruggeri soon doubled Atalanta’s lead with a powerful strike into the top corner. There was no way back for Marseille after that.

El Bilal Touré added a stylish third goal in stoppage time to spark wild celebrations among the Atalanta fans. Having knocked out favourites Liverpool on their way to the final, La Dea will now face Bayer Leverkusen on May 22nd, dreaming of securing just their second major trophy in their history.

Teun Koopmeiners was a rock in midfield for Atalanta and deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award.
