PSG’s Champions League exit sparks tension: Al-Khelaïfi snaps at reporter

In the aftermath of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, club president Nasser al-Khelaïfi found himself fielding questions about manager Luis Enrique’s future. However, one reporter’s inquiry didn’t sit well with the Qatari businessman.

As the dust settled on PSG’s disappointing exit from Europe’s premier club competition, a journalist posed a seemingly straightforward question to al-Khelaïfi: what about the future of Luis Enrique? The president, however, was not in the mood for such inquiries.

Al-Khelaïfi’s Blunt Response

“What kind of question is that, honestly? Do you understand football?” al-Khelaïfi retorted, visibly irritated by the reporter’s query. Before addressing the question directly, he took a moment to express his disappointment with the elimination.

“We’re very sad about the result, of course, we’re disappointed. We thought we could make it to the final, we believed it before the match. But that’s football. We hit the woodwork four times, twice last week. Sometimes, football isn’t fair. We deserve better, but congratulations to Dortmund, they deserved to go to the final too over the two games,” he acknowledged.

Shifting Focus to the Future

Al-Khelaïfi then sought to steer the conversation away from the immediate disappointment and towards the club’s future. “It’s not the end of the world. What are we missing? Luck. We hit the woodwork six times in two games. But that’s football, we have to accept it, we’re building something for the future. We want to keep going. We have the youngest team in Europe. For sure, the future is ours,” he concluded.
