Trouble brewing at OGC Nice: Sports Director Florent Ghisolfi set for Roma exit

OGC Nice’s appointment of Florent Ghisolfi as sporting director in 2022 has turned heads in Italy, with AS Roma now reportedly closing in on his signature.

Roma’s initial interest in Stade Rennais’ Florian Maurice has seemingly shifted towards OGC Nice’s sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi. Both Il Messaggero and Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Dan Friedkin, Roma’s owner, contacted Ghisolfi in January.

Friedkin is said to be impressed with Ghisolfi’s work and views him as the ideal candidate for the Roma project, currently in the Europa League semi-finals. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ghisolfi’s potential departure from OGC Nice in the coming weeks is due to his “disappointment” with the club’s direction.

OGC Nice’s mixed feelings

As the season draws to a close, Florent Ghisolfi’s departure from OGC Nice appears imminent. The club’s management is reportedly not entirely convinced by Ghisolfi’s performance, suggesting he may not be at the club next season.

This adds to the workload for Ineos, OGC Nice’s current shareholder, who will need to address other potential departures. Players like Jean-Clair Todibo and Khephren Thuram are also rumored to be leaving the club in the upcoming transfer window.

The possibility of Francesco Farioli’s departure further complicates matters. The current OGC Nice coach is reportedly attracting interest from several European clubs, including Ajax Amsterdam, Napoli, and AC Milan.

With Ghisolfi’s potential exit, Nice’s management faces the daunting task of rebuilding, much like they did last year following the departure of their previous sporting director.
