Olympique Lyonnais staged a remarkable comeback to defeat LOSC Lille 4-3, securing their fourth win in five Ligue 1 matches. This victory places Les Gones on the verge of a late push for European qualification.
Lille started the game strongly, nearly scoring within four minutes when Gabriel Gudmundsson’s pass found Jonathan David, whose shot was saved by Anthony Lopes. However, on 21 minutes, Bafodé Diakité capitalized on a free-kick, heading the ball into the top corner.
Yusuf Yazıcı’s injury forced him off the pitch, and his replacement, Edon Zhegrova, made an immediate impact, scoring from the edge of the box after a defensive error from Lyon. Lyon responded in the second half, with Saïd Benrahama equalizing on 65 minutes, following a swift counter-attack orchestrated by Nemanja Matić and Alexandre Lacazette.
Substitute Malick Fofana levelled the score for Lyon on 82 minutes, capitalizing on Mama Baldé’s pacey run down the right. However, Lyon’s vulnerability from set-pieces was exposed again as Diakité scored his second goal with a powerful header from a corner on 85 minutes.
In a thrilling finale, Lacazette equalized for Lyon on 88 minutes, before Baldé headed home in stoppage time to secure all three points for Lyon. The win propels Lyon to seventh place, just two points behind the European qualification spots, while Lille’s hopes for Champions League qualification remain in jeopardy.
