All-round brilliance helps Bayer Leverkusen maintain unbeaten streak

Bayer 04 Leverkusen continued their impressive unbeaten streak across all competitions this season, notching up their 48th consecutive game without a loss. Their latest victory came in a commanding 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, a victory that also ended their recent struggles in away clashes with Frankfurt.

With the league title already secured, Leverkusen finds themselves in a dream position with one foot in the UEFA Europa League final and a DFB-Pokal final looming ahead. The team’s form couldn’t be better, and their ambition to complete the league season undefeated remains alive and kicking.

The match got off to an electrifying start as Granit Xhaka blasted a shot from outside the box to give Leverkusen an early lead within the first 15 minutes. Leverkusen continued to press forward, with Jonas Hofmann setting up Exequiel Palacios for what should have been a second goal, only to be thwarted by a timely block from Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho.

However, Frankfurt soon found their footing, with Hugo Ekitiké capitalizing on a well-executed set-piece to equalize before halftime. Leverkusen, unfazed, regained the lead just before the break, courtesy of a powerful header from Patrik Schick.

The second half saw Leverkusen extend their advantage further, as Palacios converted from the penalty spot after Niels Nkounkou’s foul on Nathan Tella. Jeremie Frimpong then added another goal, putting the result beyond doubt.

Despite Frankfurt’s efforts to salvage something from the game, they were unable to contain Leverkusen’s relentless attack. Victor Boniface sealed the victory with a late penalty, leaving Frankfurt with work to do to secure a top-six finish.

Leverkusen’s dominance shows no signs of waning, with yet another impressive performance under the stewardship of coach Xabi Alonso. They now stand level with Benfica’s 59-year European record for the longest unbeaten run in all competitions, setting the stage for another historic moment in their upcoming clash against Roma.
