Injury blow for PSG: Lucas Hernandez facing end of Season

Paris Saint-Germain’s manager, Luis Enrique, anxiously awaits the medical test results for French defender Lucas Hernandez, who sustained an injury against Dortmund.

It’s a tough blow for Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisian powerhouse suffered a defeat against Borussia Dortmund (1-0) in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals at the Signal Induna Park Stadium on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Luis Enrique also lost a key player. Lucas Hernandez played in the match but was forced off due to injury in the 42nd minute, making way for Lucas Beraldo.

The news isn’t reassuring for the French international. Le Parisien reports that Lucas Hernandez might have suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

The initial medical tests are worrisome. The former Bayern Munich star will undergo further MRI scans. If confirmed, this injury could sideline Hernandez for several weeks, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Lucas will also miss out on Euro 2024 with the French national team. “I haven’t received any updates on Lucas Hernandez. It doesn’t look very positive. But we’ll wait for the doctors’ analysis,” stated the PSG coach in a post-match press conference.

German forward Niclas Füllkrug netted for Dortmund in the first half, giving them an advantage in this two-legged tie. The return leg will take place at the Parc des Princes next Tuesday.

Kylian Mbappé and his teammates now face the challenge of bouncing back and overturning the deficit against the Germans in Paris to reach the final. Everything is still to play for.

PSG manager Luis Enrique remains optimistic about the Parisian club’s chances of reaching the Champions League final.
