Óscar De Marcos is yet to provide an official response regarding his current situation with Athletic Club. However, with his contract ending and seeing the retirements of Raúl García and the departure of Muniain, it’s likely, according to sources close to him, that he will also leave Ernesto Valverde’s squad at the end of the season.
The footballer is considering whether to retire at the age of 35 or to try his luck away from San Mamés, at any club that won’t face Athletic Club, essentially exploring opportunities in foreign leagues.
After 15 seasons with the red-and-white first team, De Marcos would be another veteran bidding farewell after numerous matches and successes with the team. The right-back, no longer figuring in the plans of the coach, understands that the time has come to take a step back.
It’s worth noting that he was offered another season, a firm offer currently on the table, but De Marcos seems quite set on his departure.
