Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou has become a lot trickier, with several other top clubs entering the race for his signature.
The 23-year-old Ivorian center-back played a key role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win this season. He’s been so impressive that not only are Liverpool interested, but Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester United are also keen, according to CaughtOffside’s sources.
Adding further competition, European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also reportedly monitoring the situation.
Kossounou has seemingly rejected a contract extension offer from Leverkusen, raising questions about his future. While Leverkusen would prefer to keep him, CaughtOffside understands they may be willing to accept an offer in the region of €60 million for the defender.
Perhaps the unexpected Bundesliga triumph under manager Xabi Alonso has left Kossounou wanting a new challenge elsewhere. Liverpool will have to fight hard if they want to secure the highly-rated defender this summer.
