Juventus identify surprise goalkeeper target: Monza's Di Gregorio as Szczesny's heir?

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly in advanced talks to sign goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio from  Monza.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Juventus are closing in on a deal for the 26-year-old Italian shot-stopper. They are prepared to offer him a lucrative contract worth €3 million per year that would keep him at the club until 2029.

Transfer Fee a Stumbling Block

There appears to be a slight disagreement on the transfer fee, with reports suggesting Monza is asking for around €20 million, while Il Corriere dello Sport claims the price tag could be as high as €25 million. Juventus are reportedly willing to include a player in the deal to bring the cost down. This could be a youngster from their academy or even Mattia Perin, who is rumored to be seeking a starting role elsewhere in Serie A next season.

Long-Term Goalkeeper Plan

Juventus reportedly sees Di Gregorio as their future number two goalkeeper, with him potentially taking over the starting role from Wojciech Szczesny in 2025. The Polish international’s future at the club is uncertain as he is reportedly unwilling to accept a pay cut on a new contract. Juventus might even try to sell Szczesny this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.

Reports suggest that Juventus and Monza discussed other players during their meeting, with Andrea Colpani also mentioned. However, the details surrounding Colpani’s potential transfer remain unclear.
