Stade Brestois vs AS Monaco: Player Ratings

Man of the Match: K. Diatta (8): The Senegalese winger was a constant threat down the left flank, showing exceptional directness and creating danger with regularity. He was involved in many of his team’s attacking moves, including the assist for Minamino’s goal. He also excelled in his defensive duties, making five tackles while being productive in both halves of the pitch.

Stade Brestois (4-2-3-1)

M. Bizot (4.5): The Breton goalkeeper had few opportunities to shine, facing only 3 shots on target, two of which ended up in the back of the net. The goalkeeper did not excel in any department of his game and was generally a spectator in this match.

B. Locko (5.5): Effective in both halves of the pitch, the full-back showed good things offensively, making the necessary overlaps and delivering a few crosses that deserved better. Defensively, he was alert and focused, not making many mistakes.

J. Le Cardinal (5): A questionable performance for the player who was only making his second Ligue 1 start this season. He made good interceptions and stopped some attacks from progressing, but he also gave Balogun too much space to dictate his team’s play. Additionally, he cannot be said to be exemplary in defending the penalty area, where he can lack concentration.

B. Chardonnet (4.5): Guilty of both Monaco goals, the number 5 had a difficult game today. Even if the rest was not shameful either, his absence on these two key actions leaves a stain on his record.

K. Lala (5): A relatively decent performance for the former Strasbourg player, who showed at times that he still has fire in his legs. His good ability to get forward proved very useful for Brest. On the other hand, defensively, he sometimes missed the call, leaving spaces that were quite damaging for his team.

J. Martin (4): Largely invisible in this match, the experienced midfielder was really unconvincing in midfield. He did not create much play going forward, while also being quite fragile defensively, leaving a lot of space between the lines for Akliouche, for example. A poor record for him in this Ligue 1 clash. Replaced by M. Pereira Lage (79′).

H. Magnetti (5.5): While his partner struggled, he had a rather successful match, making himself available and on the lookout for any ball to recover. But above all, he created a lot offensively, as he was often present in the left half-space. The proof: he is the one who made the most dribbles in the match (4).

M. Satriano (5): Apart from a few flashes of talent, the Uruguayan lacked accuracy in his play and was not necessarily the spark for Brest. He did make 3 dribbles in the match, without being the one who delivered the dangerous balls either. However, he did shoot on goal three times, once hitting the frame of the goal, narrowly missing the opener.

K. Doumbia (6): Interesting offensively, the attacking midfielder was creative and quite positive in his play. His ability to combine, especially with Mounie, allowed him to create play in small spaces, even in transition. Replaced by M. Camara (62′).

R. Del Castillo (5): While the Frenchman is certainly having the best season of his professional career, this match will not be remembered in his Brest epic. Quite blunt and inaccurate in his passing, he seemed to lack energy early enough to apply himself in his decision-making. On the right as well as in the heart of the game, he created few opportunities. However, he was very good on the defensive side of the game, making 7 tackles during the match, but the offensive contribution is insufficient. He came off at the end of the match for B. Brahimi (86′).

S. Mounie (5): The Brest striker had a few chances to put his name on the scoreboard but missed these opportunities. However, his quality of movement often allowed him to get into good positions, but without scoring or even shooting. His quality of deflection was interesting on the other hand. Replaced by J. Le Douaron (62′).

AS Monaco (4-2-3-1)

R. Majecki (5): Similar to Bizot, but without the goals conceded, the Monegasque goalkeeper had no impact on the match at all, either in building play or on his line. His influence was limited to two very simple saves from soft shots.

M. Salisu (6): Very interesting offensively, the Ghanaian showed good things in the distribution of the ball in depth. In a role as a high full-back on the pitch, he brought a lot, especially in the first half.

G. Maripan (6.5): The boss of this defense played a match up to the standard of this status, multiplying the decisive interventions with a phlegm that leaves one speechless. Often very well placed in the box, he was on the receiving end of all the Brest crosses, and it is no coincidence.

W. Singo (6): A solid defensive performance, where the Monegasque defense did not flinch, largely thanks to the Ivorian. His match is very solid, and marked by two acrobatic interventions in depth executed with class. Unfortunately for him, another highlight of his match is the red card he received after a kick to Le Cardinal at the end of the match (90+5), which could cost him matches of suspension.

Vanderson (5.5): Also quite offensive at times, the Brazilian made a difference on this right side, and combined a lot with Akliouche in particular to find space on the side. His quality of foot is always appreciated when it comes to crossing. Finally, defensively, he managed his match rather well.

D. Zakaria (5.5): A start to the first half that could be described as a little off-tempo for the Swiss. He had trouble getting into the game, and it took a flash of genius from him in the 40th minute, and his splendid goal, to get into the game. Afterwards, he multiplied the interceptions, and was involved in many of Monaco’s good moves.

Y. Fofana (6): On a constant pace throughout the game, the French international managed this midfield with an iron fist, without flinching, and by imposing his rhythm thanks to his above-average physical baggage. Aggressive on the ball carrier, he won a lot of balls.

K. Diatta (8): See above.

T. Minamino (7): One of the best Monegasques was Japanese today. Sharp in depth, and fast, the former Liverpool player didn’t mince words, and showed his qualities of percussion, but also of passing. Always active in the pressure, he helped his team to recover the ball. Finally, his goal arrives, first signaled offside, but perfectly legitimate, which doubles the lead for Monaco. W. Ben Yedder takes his place at the end of the match.

M. Akliouche (6): Very mobile, the young Frenchman showed good things, but above all a strong desire to create play. He is not the type of player to shirk away and let others lead the play, which proves his precocious maturity. In midfield, he was very important as a support between the lines, often found facing the play to then orient. Replaced by E. Ben Seghir (78′), who will not stay long on the pitch, sent off with a red card in the 91st minute.

F. Balogun (5.5): Frustrating in the finish, the American still made up for it with his good quality of play on the counter-attack. He was a very good option for deflection today, and showed that he is quite capable of replacing Ben Yedder. In addition, he has that good top speed that the Frenchman does not have, and which allowed him today to maintain the danger on the Brest defense. It is B. Embolo who replaces him (85′).
