RC Lens has made their first signing of the summer transfer window, bringing in former Lille goalkeeper Hervé Koffi for €2.5 million, according to FootMercato.
Koffi, 27, joins Lens from Belgian side Charleroi, where he has been the first-choice goalkeeper since 2021. The Burkinabe shot-stopper previously spent four years at Lille, but made only six appearances for the first team.
The signing of Koffi is seen as a move to provide competition for Brice Samba, who has been Lens’s undisputed number one goalkeeper since their return to Ligue 1 in 2020. Samba has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, and Koffi could step in as his replacement if he does depart.
Koffi is a 54-time international for Burkina Faso and has experience of playing in France, having spent time on loan at Stade Rennais and AFC Tubize during his time at Lille.
Lens are currently sixth in Ligue 1 and are on course for another European qualification spot. The club has been playing in continental competitions every season since their promotion back to the top flight in 2020, and the signing of Koffi is seen as a sign of their ambition to continue this trend.
