Naby Keita suspended for remainder of season for refusing to board team bus

Naby Keita has been handed a severe punishment by Werder Bremen for his refusal to board the team bus ahead of their match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Guinean midfielder has been suspended for the remainder of the season and will not train with the first team or be allowed in the dressing room. He will also face a substantial fine.

The incident occurred just hours before the match when Keita learned he would not be starting. Instead of joining his teammates on the bus trip to the stadium, Keita decided to go home, a decision that did not sit well with his manager.

The club initially threatened Keita with disciplinary action: “After Naby found out yesterday that he would not be playing from the start, he decided not to get on the bus, but to go home. We will talk to him and his agent tomorrow about the consequences and how to proceed.”

Now, Werder Bremen’s managing director, Clemens Fritz, has explained the club’s decision: “As a club, we will not tolerate Naby’s behavior. He let his team down in a difficult moment related to our recent form and team availability, and put his own interests ahead of those of the team. We cannot allow that.”

“At this stage of the season, we need to fully focus on the remaining matches and on a team that stays together. That’s why we have no other choice,” he explained.

Keita’s actions have been met with widespread criticism, both from within the club and from fans. His suspension is a clear message that Werder Bremen will not tolerate such behavior from their players.

The incident is a major setback for Keita, who has been struggling to find regular playing time this season. He will now miss the club’s final five matches of the season and will likely have to find a new club in the summer.
