Sassuolo vs AC Milan (3-3): Player Ratings

Man of the Match: A. Laurienté (8)

Laurienté was a constant threat on the left wing for Sassuolo, causing problems for the Milan defense with his pace and trickery. He scored two well-taken goals and was a constant menace to the Milan backline.

Sassuolo (4-3-3)

A. Consigli (6.5): Consigli made some important saves for Sassuolo, including a double save from a free-kick in the first half. He was also quick off his line and commanded his area well.

M. Viti (5.5): Viti had a solid game at left-back, keeping Chukwueze relatively quiet. He was a bit nervy at times, but he did his job overall.

G. Ferrari (5): Ferrari was the experienced head in the Sassuolo defense and he was solid for most of the game. However, he was caught out of position for Milan’s third goal.

M. Erlic (5.5): Erlic was a bit better than his partner Ferrari and he showed some good qualities in covering the ground. He was also alert to danger and made a couple of important interceptions.

R. Tressoldi (5): Tressoldi came on as an early substitute for Toljan and he did a decent job. He was a bit out of his depth at times, but he made some important contributions defensively.

K. Thorsvedt (5): Thorsvedt had a quiet game in midfield and he didn’t see much of the ball. He did make a couple of good tackles and he provided the assist for Pinamonti’s goal.

P. Obiang (3): Obiang was a major disappointment for Sassuolo and he was arguably their worst player on the pitch. He missed a number of easy passes and he was easily beaten by Milan’s midfielders.

D. Boloca (6.5): Boloca was one of Sassuolo’s better players and he was a solid presence in midfield. He was good at winning the ball back and he also showed some good attacking intent.

A. Pinamonti (5.5): Pinamonti scored a tap-in early on and was a constant threat in the box. He also played his part defensively, freeing up space for his teammates.

C. Volpato (5.5): Volpato had a decent game on the right wing, making some good runs behind the Milan defense. He provided the assist for Sassuolo’s first goal.

AC Milan (4-2-3-1)

M. Sportiello (4.5): Sportiello was deputizing for the injured Mike Maignan and he had a disappointing game. He conceded three goals from Sassuolo, the 19th-placed team in Serie A, and he was at fault for at least one of them.

T. Hernandez (5.5): Hernandez was a constant threat going forward with his pace and movement, but he was not at his best defensively. He was caught out at set-pieces and he also made a few poor decisions.

M. Thiaw (5): Thiaw had a shaky performance and he looked nervous at times. He made a few mistakes on the ball and he was not always in the right position.

S. Kjaer (3): Kjaer was a disaster for Milan and he was arguably their worst player on the pitch. He was slow, out of position, and he made a number of poor decisions. He was substituted for Gabbia in the 55th minute.

A. Florenzi (5): Florenzi was a mixed bag for Milan. He was good going forward and his corners caused problems for Sassuolo, but he was poor defensively. He was constantly troubled by Laurienté and he was at fault for Sassuolo’s second goal.

Y. Musah (5): Musah was not at his best and he was a liability in midfield. He made a few poor decisions and he lost the ball on a number of occasions. He was substituted for Giroud in the 55th minute.

Y. Adli (5): Adli had a mixed game and he was not at his best. He made a few poor passes and he lost the ball on a number of occasions. He was better in the second half, but he was still not at his usual level. He was substituted for Okafor in the 82nd minute.

R. Leao (7.5): Leao was Milan’s best player on the pitch and he was a constant threat to the Sassuolo defense. He scored a brilliant goal and he provided the assist for Milan’s second goal. He was also a menace on the dribble and he was a constant source of danger for Sassuolo.

R. Loftus-Cheek (6): Loftus-Cheek had a good game and he was a solid presence in midfield. He was always available for a pass and he made a few good tackles. He was surprisingly substituted for Reijnders in the 55th minute.

S. Chukwueze (5.5): Chukwueze had a frustrating game and he was twice denied by the offside flag. He scored two goals in offside positions, but he was otherwise quite effective. He was good at taking on defenders and he created a few chances for his teammates. He was substituted for Pulisic in the 65th minute.

L. Jovic (5.5): Jovic scored a poacher’s goal and he was generally good at linking the play. However, he was also guilty of giving the ball away too often and he was not always at his best in transition. Overall, he had a decent game.
