Al Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club based in Riyadh, is reportedly looking to sign Atlético Madrid center-back José María Giménez as a replacement for Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte, a Spanish international, is rumored to be returning to his former club Athletic Club next summer, leaving Al Nassr in need of a new center-back. Giménez, who has spent his entire professional career at Atlético Madrid, has emerged as their top target.
Despite having his worst season in terms of injuries, Giménez remains a highly regarded defender at the international level. At 29 years old, he is entering the latter stages of his career, and Al Nassr believes he could be the ideal replacement for Laporte.
Atlético Madrid’s sporting director is reportedly open to Giménez’s departure, especially if it means generating a significant transfer fee that can be reinvested in new signings. Giménez’s current market value is estimated at €25 million, and Al Nassr is reportedly willing to meet that price. They are also prepared to offer Giménez a substantial salary increase, with a two-year contract and an optional extension on the table.
