Roma stun Milan in Europa League quarter-final first leg!

In a surprising turn of events, AS Roma emerged victorious in a tense battle against AC Milan, taking a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.

The match, played at the San Siro, was expected to be a close encounter between two Italian giants. However, Roma had other plans.

Just 17 minutes into the game, a controversial moment unfolded. Romelu Lukaku appeared to be offside when he received the ball down the right wing. Despite Milan’s protests, he found Stephan El Shaarawy in the center, but the winger’s shot was tipped over by Mike Maignan.

From the resulting corner, Gianluca Mancini capitalized on some sloppy marking by Ruben Loftus-Cheek. He rose above the defense and expertly headed home Paulo Dybala’s corner, sending the travelling Roma fans into a frenzy.

Historically, Roma have struggled against Milan, failing to win any of their last nine meetings. This time, however, things were different. Daniele De Rossi’s men were determined to rewrite history and held strong defensively, despite Olivier Giroud coming close with a couple of headed efforts.

The pressure mounted in the second half as Milan, desperate for an equalizer, finally started to create some chances. Yacine Adli almost surprised Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar with a dangerous cross-shot, but the Serbian managed to tip it over the bar.

Milan, who are virtually guaranteed to miss out on the Serie A title this year, were clearly hungry for silverware in the Europa League. However, their finishing let them down. In the dying minutes, Olivier Giroud had a golden opportunity from close range, but his shot clipped the top of the bar and went over.

AS Roma held on for a historic win, finally getting revenge on Stefano Pioli’s Milan under the leadership of their new manager, Daniele De Rossi. Gianluca Mancini, with his crucial first-half header, was deservedly named Man of the Match.

The stage is now set for an exciting second leg at the Stadio Olimpico next week. Will Roma hold on to their advantage, or can Milan overturn the deficit and advance to the next round?
