Bundesliga: Leverkusen seal dramatic win to extend unbeaten run

Bayer Leverkusen’s magical season continued in dramatic fashion as they fought back from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim in the dying minutes. This incredible win extends their historic unbeaten streak to a mind-blowing 39 games!

The pre-match buzz was all about Xabi Alonso committing his future to the club, sending a strong message that the “Neverkusen” curse might finally be broken. The home side dominated early on but struggled to convert their chances. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, defied expectations by taking the lead against the run of play in the 33rd minute through Maximilian Beier.

Despite falling behind, Leverkusen pushed hard for an equalizer before halftime but were denied by a series of superb saves from Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. The second half was a similar story – Leverkusen controlled possession but lacked the finishing touch, with Baumann once again proving unbeatable.

With their unbeaten record on the line, Leverkusen threw caution to the wind and bombarded the Hoffenheim goal. It seemed like nothing would go in, with Baumann pulling off a string of incredible saves, including a stunning stop from a goalmouth scramble.

Just when it looked like Hoffenheim might pull off a shock win, Leverkusen’s relentless pressure finally paid off. In the 88th minute, a scramble in the box saw Jonathan Tah head the ball back into the danger zone, and Robert Andrich smashed it home. The drama didn’t end there! In stoppage time, Patrik Schick pounced on a Nathan Tella cross to complete the comeback and secure a dramatic 2-1 victory.

This win keeps Leverkusen on track for their first-ever Bundesliga title, with 23 wins in just 27 league games. While Oliver Baumann deserves huge credit for keeping Hoffenheim in the game, Leverkusen’s never-say-die attitude and relentless attacking ultimately proved too much to handle.
