Bayer Leverkusen to activate €8M option to buy Borja Iglesias from Real Betis

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that they will activate their €8 million option to buy striker Borja Iglesias from Real Betis.

Iglesias joined Leverkusen on loan in January with an option to buy, and has impressed in his time at the club, scoring 7 goals in 14 appearances.

Leverkusen sporting director Xabi Alonso is a big fan of Iglesias, and the club’s hierarchy are also convinced that he is the right player to lead the line for them in the long term.

Iglesias himself has also expressed his desire to stay at Leverkusen, and he is expected to sign a contract until 2027 with the club in the coming weeks.

The deal will see Betis receive €8 million in transfer fees, with potential additional payments based on performance-related bonuses.

Iglesias’ departure will be a blow to Betis, but the club are expected to use the money to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.
