Jadon Sancho’s return to form at Borussia Dortmund has convinced the German club to make his loan move from Manchester United permanent.
Sancho, 23, has been a key player for Dortmund since rejoining the club in January. He has scored three goals and provided four assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.
The English winger was previously at Dortmund from 2017 to 2021, before joining Manchester United for a fee of £73 million. However, he struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford, and was loaned back to Dortmund in January.
Sancho has been much more successful at Dortmund this season. He has helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and is currently in third place in the Bundesliga.
According to the Daily Mirror, Dortmund are now willing to sign Sancho permanently. The player himself is also keen on the move.
However, Dortmund are hoping to sign Sancho for a reduced fee. They are reportedly willing to pay £35 million for the player, which is £40 million less than what Manchester United paid for him in 2021.
The future of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United could also have a bearing on Sancho’s future. If Ten Hag remains in charge next season, Manchester United may be more willing to let Sancho go, as the relationship between the two men is reportedly strained.
However, if Ten Hag leaves, Manchester United may be more likely to keep Sancho. The club’s new manager may see Sancho as a key part of his plans.
The future of Jadon Sancho therefore seems to be linked to that of his former coach at Manchester United.
