Nantes announce return of Antoine Kombouaré

FC Nantes have announced the return of Antoine Kombouaré as manager, following the dismissal of Jocelyn Gourvennec.

Kombouaré, who previously managed Nantes from 2019 to 2021, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

The 58-year-old Frenchman returns to the club with Nantes in 16th place in Ligue 1, just four points above the relegation zone.

Kombouaré’s first game back in charge will be the trip to Nice on March 19.

Kombouaré’s Previous Spell at Nantes

Kombouaré was appointed Nantes manager in December 2019, with the club in 19th place in Ligue 1.

He led the team to a 12th-place finish in his first season, and then to a seventh-place finish in the 2020-21 season, which earned Nantes a place in the Europa League.

Kombouaré also led Nantes to victory in the Coupe de France in 2022, the club’s first major trophy since 2000.

Kombouaré’s Task

Kombouaré’s task is to keep Nantes in Ligue 1 this season. The club have been in poor form in recent months, and they have a difficult run of games in the coming weeks.

Kombouaré will need to get the best out of his players, and he will also need to be tactically astute.

If he can keep Nantes up, it will be a major achievement.
