Serie A: Juventus held to frustrating draw by stubborn Genoa

Juventus’ struggles continued on Sunday as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by Genoa. This result extends their winless run in Serie A to eight games, leaving them with a lot to improve on.

Genoa, who hadn’t won an away game against Juventus in 33 years, came close to causing an upset. They started brightly and forced a good save from Wojciech Szczęsny early on. Juventus struggled to create much in the first half and went into the break level for the 10th time in 15 home league games.

Massimiliano Allegri made a triple substitution in the second half in search of a breakthrough. The changes almost paid off immediately as Samuel Iling-Junior hit the post with a shot. Dušan Vlahović also had a couple of decent chances but couldn’t find the target.

Juventus’ frustration boiled over in stoppage time when Vlahović was sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession. Despite being down to 10 men, Genoa held on for a well-deserved point. This is their first point away to Juventus in an H2H meeting since October 2018.

The result leaves Juventus in third place in Serie A, with a missed opportunity to move into second. Genoa can be proud of their performance, showing great resilience to earn a point against a strong opponent.

Man of the Match: Mattia Bani (Genoa)
