Rennes 2-0 Marseille: Player Ratings

Man of the Match: Terrier (7)

A good match, a flash of brilliance, a goal. Terrier’s efficiency. He scored a great goal to open the scoring, starting and finishing a beautiful move. A great way to score his 50th goal for Rennes.

Stade Rennais F.C.: 4-3-3

Mandanda (6): He didn’t face many clear chances but he convinced with a few good saves. He may not have felt very good, with some hesitations.

Truffert (4.5): He suffered against the omnipresence of Clauss and the speed of Sarr. He had the merit of winning a penalty that put Rennes in a comfortable position, although the penalty was totally non-existent… Replaced by Seidu, a more defensive profile to preserve the score, in the 84th minute.

Wooh (5.5): He was solid and held his own against the Marseillais but showed just as many shortcomings in managing the depth.

Omari (6): A good match for him in this “new look” central defence, he gave good passes to his teammates and was attentive.

G. Doué (6.5): He insisted a lot on his side and often made the former Nantes player Quentin Merlin bend.

Blas (6): A good match for a player who was booed by the Roazhon Park. He delivered a good performance in an ingenious midfield 3 and came off to a deserved ovation. Redemption for him. He was replaced by Matusiwa in the 66th minute.

Santamaria (5.5): He has accustomed us so much to a better level of play that we are almost disappointed when he delivers a decent match.

Bourigeaud (6): Far from being the match of his life, for his 301st celebrated with great pomp by the RCK, he still managed to convert a very generous penalty to extinguish the hopes of the Marseillais. Replaced by the young Djaoui Cissé in the 88th minute.

Terrier: See above.

Kalimuendo (6): A fairly good match, he often showed his good back to goal. Replaced by Salah, the Ndiaye Rennais, in the 88th minute.

Gouiri (6.5): Another good day for him, he was inspired. He actively contributed to the construction of the goal with a beautiful assist. He was replaced by D. Doué in the 66th minute, who did his team some good.

Olympique de Marseille : 4-2-3-1

Lopez (6): Despite conceding two goals, he made some good saves and played well with his feet, as usual.

Merlin (5): The former Nantes player struggled against Guéla Doué in particular.

Meïté (6): A good game for him, he was solid and knew how to position himself to intercept Rennes’ play in small spaces.

Mbemba (5.5): Overall a fairly good game from the Marseille central defence.

Clauss (6): Always as offensive, he caused problems for Truffert who didn’t have the best game of his career.

Kondogbia (6.5): A real fulcrum. All the balls went through him, and he made the game flow with ease. His exit in the 68th minute left a bit of a void in midfield, especially considering Gueye’s performance. He was replaced by Veretout.

Gueye (4): A bad choice, he didn’t have the rhythm and it showed. Little technical accuracy but not much more physical intensity in the duels, which is however his strong point. Replaced by Luis Henrique to try to snatch a draw, in the 84th minute.

Harit (5.5): He was good intermittently, he offered us some flashes of brilliance but overall a bit timid. One Moroccan international hides another, he was replaced by Ounahi in the 84th minute.

Ndiaye (6): He showed a lot of desire but little accuracy. But as soon as he succeeded in his controls, there was great danger on the Rennes goal. He was replaced by Moumbagna in the 68th minute.

Sarr (5.5): He tried a lot but without any success. Frustrating, one of the highlights of his game will be a yellow card received for a simulation in the Rennes box. For the same thing, Truffert was awarded a penalty.

Aubameyang (5): Technical unemployment, not many balls to exploit. He was well taken care of by Wooh and Omari and could not get out of his position. He lacked presence alongside him to express himself.
