Ligue 1: Mbappe Masterclass Secures Big Win for PSG at Montpellier

Kylian Mbappé stole the show with a hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Montpellier 6-2 in a Ligue 1 rollercoaster at the Stade de la Mosson. This win puts PSG a whopping 12 points clear at the top of the table.

Despite coming into the match winless in their last three league games, PSG were expected to dominate against a struggling Montpellier side. They didn’t disappoint early on, grabbing the lead through Vitinha’s curling effort from outside the box. Mbappé soon doubled their advantage, finishing off a swift counter-attack.

However, Montpellier refused to roll over. A fortunate deflection helped Nordin pull one back with a header, and they were left frustrated when Khazri’s potential equalizer was cleared off the line. The drama continued when Donnarumma collided with Coulibaly in the box, despite getting the ball first. Savanier converted the resulting penalty to send the home fans into a frenzy at the equalizer just before halftime.

PSG responded strongly after the break, with Mbappé leading the charge. His powerful shot from distance took a deflection off the crossbar and looped in for his second goal. Moments later, Lee extended their lead again, cutting inside and firing a screamer past the Montpellier goalkeeper.

Mbappé wasn’t done yet. He etched his name further into PSG history by scoring his 250th goal for the club just past the hour mark. This effectively ended any hopes of a Montpellier comeback, and PSG cruised to victory with a late goal from substitute Nuno Mendes.

While PSG celebrate a dominant win and practically secure their 10th Ligue 1 title in 12 seasons, Montpellier’s woes continue. They’ve only won one of their last 11 home games and sit precariously just above the relegation zone. They’ll need a significant turnaround to avoid a fight for survival in the coming months.
