Ghana: Iñaki Williams’ absence sparks national debate

Iñaki Williams has been left out of Ghana’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda. The decision by new coach Otto Addo has sparked a national debate, with some fans questioning the timing of the omission.

Williams has been in excellent form for his club side Athletic Bilbao, scoring 12 goals in 26 La Liga appearances this season. However, he has struggled to replicate that form at international level, scoring just once in 10 appearances for Ghana.

Despite his struggles, many fans believe that Williams deserves a place in the squad, especially given the team’s recent struggles. Ghana failed to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and were eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

Addo has defended his decision to leave Williams out of the squad, saying that he is looking to build a new team for the future. However, the decision has not gone down well with some fans, who believe that Williams is still too good to be ignored.

Thomas Partey is another notable absentee from the squad. The Arsenal midfielder has been plagued by injuries in recent months and has not played for Ghana since the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana will face Nigeria on March 22nd and Uganda on March 26th. Both games will be played in Marrakech, Morocco.
