Mallorca vs Granada Preview: Team news, stats and prediction

Mallorca have managed to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone in La Liga in recent weeks, despite a tough run of fixtures.

Javier Aguirre’s men have faced three of the current top six in their last five outings, but have still picked up five points (2W, 1D, 2L), including an impressive 1-0 win over high-flying Girona.

A 1-0 defeat to an in-form Barcelona last time out leaves the “Pirates” seven points clear of the bottom three heading into this matchday.

Given their poor away form (just one league win all season), they will need to make Son Moix a fortress if they are to stay up, but they have only lost twice at home in all competitions since the end of August (5W, 8D).

That will make them a daunting prospect for visitors Granada, who are one of three teams yet to win away in the league this season, having lost eight of their last nine attempts (1D).

They look doomed for an immediate return to the second tier, with just ten games remaining to make up the ten-point gap to safety.

Things would look a little rosier for the “Nasrids” if they could learn to hold on to leads, having dropped seven points from winning positions in their last five outings (3D, 2L), including a 3-2 defeat to Real Sociedad last time out.

The fans will be hoping for a victory against Mallorca, a side they have beaten in six of the last seven head-to-head meetings (1D).

Key Players: Mallorca will be hoping striker Vedat Muriqi can end his five-game goal drought. He is unbeaten in the last seven home games in which he has found the net (5W, 2D), and all of those goals have come in the first or last minute of the game. Granada’s top scorer Myrto Uzuni will be looking to outshine him. He has scored in his last two head-to-head meetings (2W), and has three goals in his last three outings.

Hot stat: Granada are the only team in La Liga yet to draw a 0-0 game this season.

Prediction: Mallorca 2-1 Granada
