Real Madrid vs. Manchester City and Atlético Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund could be reversed!

The draw for the Champions League quarterfinals took place on Friday. Paris Saint-Germain drew FC Barcelona, while Real Madrid will face Manchester City for the third time in three years. Atlético Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund.

However, there is a potential problem with the scheduling of the matches. Both Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid are scheduled to play their home matches on the same day. This is a security concern for the Spanish authorities, who do not want to have two major matches in Madrid on the same day.

UEFA is also not in favor of this type of scenario. In 2022, Benfica and Sporting CP were both scheduled to play home matches in Lisbon on the same day. UEFA forced one of the matches to be postponed.

In the Champions League, all quarterfinal matches are played at the same time. This means that UEFA could be forced to reverse the order of one of the two matches. This has happened before, in 2014 and 2022, when Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid both played home matches one day apart.

It remains to be seen what UEFA will decide. However, it is clear that the scheduling of the Champions League quarterfinals is a potential problem for the Spanish authorities.
