Mbappé’s goal-scoring lead in Ligue 1 and Golden Boot race threatened

Kylian Mbappé’s status as the top scorer in Ligue 1 and the Golden Boot race is under threat, as he has not played 90 minutes in any of his last five games.

The French forward has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 21 goals in 27 Ligue 1 appearances. However, his playing time has been reduced in recent weeks by Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, who is keen to protect the player ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Mbappé’s absence has allowed Lille forward Jonathan David to close the gap in the Ligue 1 scoring charts. David has scored 14 goals in 24 league appearances, and he is now just seven goals behind Mbappé.

The Golden Boot race is even more challenging for Mbappé. He is currently fourth in the standings, nine goals behind Harry Kane. With just nine games remaining in Ligue 1, it seems unlikely that Mbappé will be able to catch Kane.

Mbappé’s situation is a reminder of the fine margins that exist at the top level of football. Even a player of his quality can be vulnerable to losing his place in the team if he is not careful.
