Lecce hunts for new coach: Two candidates lead the race

Lecce have fired their coach Roberto D’Aversa and are now looking for a replacement. According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, two candidates are currently the frontrunners to succeed D’Aversa.

The two candidates are Leonardo Semplici and Luca Gotti. Both are experienced coaches who have previously worked in Serie A.

Semplici was most recently the coach of Spezia, where he was sacked in February 2022. He previously coached Cagliari and Spal, leading both teams to promotion to Serie A.

Gotti was also most recently the coach of Spezia, where he was sacked in December 2021. He previously coached Udinese, leading them to a 14th-place finish in Serie A in 2020-21.

The decision to fire D’Aversa was made after Lecce’s 1-0 defeat to Verona on Sunday. D’Aversa was sent off after the match for headbutting Verona player Thomas Henry.

Lecce are currently 16th in Serie A with 25 points from 28 matches. Their next match is against Fiorentina on March 19.
