According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Chelsea has set its sights on Girona’s head coach Michel as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino next season.
Apparently, Chelsea representatives even traveled to Spain to gauge Michel’s interest. However, the report claims Michel is focused on staying with Girona for at least another season.
This news comes after Michel publicly declared his commitment to Girona following their victory over Rayo Vallecano at the end of February.
Michel’s impressive work with Girona this season has turned him into a hot commodity. Under his leadership, the unheralded La Liga side has unexpectedly found itself challenging giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona for the league title.
This success has also reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona, who are looking for a new manager after Xavi Hernandez’s departure. Manchester City has also been mentioned as a possible destination, given the links between the Catalan club and Pep Guardiola’s team.
Despite these offers, all signs point towards Michel staying put at Girona for another season, especially if they manage to qualify for the prestigious Champions League.
