Barcelona’s hopes of signing Joshua Kimmich have taken a hit

Barcelona’s pursuit of star midfielder Joshua Kimmich seems to be hitting a snag. According to Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich is ready to open contract negotiations with the 29-year-old, potentially leaving Barca empty-handed.

Kimmich has long been on Barcelona’s radar, but their well-documented financial struggles have made any potential deal difficult. Recently, there were hints of a possible exit for Kimmich. The German midfielder reportedly expressed frustration with manager Thomas Tuchel, and Bayern’s performance hasn’t been stellar either, with the reigning champions trailing Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

However, Bayern’s new sporting director, Max Eberl, is optimistic. With Tuchel’s departure confirmed at the end of the season, Eberl believes the relationship between Kimmich and the club will improve. Kimmich, whose current contract runs until 2025, has also been linked to Premier League giants Manchester City and Manchester United.

This development makes Barcelona’s chances of signing Kimmich much slimmer. With Bayern seemingly keen to keep their star player, and other top clubs circling, it appears Barca will have to look elsewhere in their midfield search.
