Juventus 2-2 Atalanta: Player Ratings

Man of the Match: Weston McKennie (8)

McKennie, nicknamed “Harry Potter,” put in a stellar performance tonight. He was a force on both offense and defense, and he was the main reason Juventus were able to salvage a point from the match. He had two assists, the first for Cambiaso after a beautiful team move (66th minute) and the second for Milik with a clever chest pass (70th minute). A sublime match from the Turin maestro, he was replaced by Yildiz in the 88th minute.

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny (5)

It’s difficult to judge his performance. He didn’t have much to do and he couldn’t do anything about either of Atalanta’s goals.

Federico Gatti (6.5)

Gatti had a great defensive game today. He was very present in aerial and ground duels tonight. He can’t be blamed for either of Atalanta’s goals, and he contributed offensively for Juventus with numerous forward projections. A real warrior’s performance from him tonight.

Gleison Bremer (5.5)

Good game for the Brazilian defender of Juve. Solid as usual defensively and in duels, he is still the author of the foul that led to Koopmeiners’ first goal tonight. This foul and its consequence tarnish his performance a bit.

Danilo (5.5)

A solid game from the Juventini captain tonight. Like his central defensive partners, he was solid in duels and interceptions. However, on the second Bergamasque goal, it was he who covered Koopmeiners for offside after a poor defensive placement. This error tarnishes his good performance.

Andrea Cambiaso (6)

He had revived the Turin flame in this match! The young Italian did a good job both defensively and offensively. After a sublime team move, he perfectly adjusted the Bergamasque goalkeeper to allow Juve to equalize in this match. He was replaced by Weah in the 82nd minute.

Weston McKennie (8)

See above.

Manuel Locatelli (3.5)

What can we say about the performance of the “metronome” of Juventus tonight? His performance was simply bad, both offensively and defensively, as well as in terms of ball losses and bad passes. Locatelli was not good at all tonight, he was a handicap for the Turin midfield, if he had been on a good night, maybe Juventus could have gone for the victory.

Fabio Miretti (4.5)

The young Juve nugget had a very complicated evening against the physical strength of the Atalanta players. He tried to bring something offensively to his team but each time it led to nothing. Defensively and physically he was jostled by the Bergamasque midfielder. He was replaced by Caviglia in the 76th minute.

Samuel Iling-Junior (4.5)

Mixed match for the young Englishman, he tried to bring danger to the Bergamasque defense with his dribbles but it was a bit complicated for him, often fouled he was not able to express himself properly. He was replaced by Alex Sandro in the 82nd minute.

Federico Chiesa (6)

It’s good to see him back at this level! Chiesa has put together a second high-level match against a big team in the league. A successful match for the Furioclase of Juventus, he was at the origin of the first Turin goal (66th minute), but apart from that, he was very present offensively and brought danger several times in the match. He was generous in his defensive efforts. It’s a pleasure to see Chiesa back at this level!

Arkadiusz Milik (5.5)

Scorer today, the Pole had allowed his team to take the lead in this match with a beautiful shot (70th minute). He tried to create chances for himself before his goal but it was very complicated for him, muzzled by Scalvini. He was replaced by Kean in the 76th minute.

Atalanta (3-4-2-1)

Marco Carnesecchi (5)

Similar to his counterpart in Turin, he could do nothing about Juventus’ goals. A difficult match to analyze.

Berat Djimsiti (5.5)

Solid in the first half, the Albanian was much less so in the second. He was unable to contain Juventus’ many attempts and had to concede two goals. He is not at fault for the goals, but apart from that, he was put in difficulty far too many times by Chiesa. He was the author of the decisive pass on the Dea’s second goal.

Joakim Mæhle (5)

Like his Albanian teammate, the Swede had a lot of trouble in the second half. He was quickly put in difficulty by Chiesa and Milik after the restart. He didn’t make any defensive mistakes, but it was very hard for him in the second half!

Giorgio Scalvini (6)

A great game from the Dea’s Italian nugget. Solid defensively, he put Milik in his pocket. He made some very good defensive tackles and showed a lot of personality tonight against the Turin attack. He was replaced by Toloi (66th minute).

Davide Zappacosta (4)

This was not a great game from the Bergamasque right-back. He was put in difficulty several times by Chiesa and Iling JR. A very complicated match offensively and defensively for him, he was carried away by Chiesa’s dribbles, notably on Cambiaso’s equalizing goal (66th minute). He was replaced by Hateboer (66th minute).

Ederson (5)

Average game from the Brazilian. Put in difficulty by McKennie, he still managed Miretti and Locatelli well. However, offensively it was a no-show for him tonight. He was accurate in his passing but he lost too many balls.

Mario Pasalic (5.5)

A good game from him. The author of the decisive pass on Koopmeiners’ first goal, the Croatian was not transcendent in this match either. Good defensively, he did not bring what he knows how to do best in attack.

Marten de Roon (4)

Very complicated match for de Roon. He was the victim of Cambiaso and McKennie tonight. He was unable to contain the two players on his side and he also lost many balls. Offensively it was a no-show for him, with only one cross and very few passes in depth. He was replaced by Bakker (88th minute).

Teun Koopmeiners (8)

What a game from him! Enormous game from the Dutchman, the strongman of this team responded in the best possible way tonight. He scored a double, his first goal coming from a free-kick combination leading to a shot into the top corner (35th minute). His second goal came from a beautiful pass in depth with a finish between the legs of the Turin goalkeeper (77th minute). However, what tarnishes his enormous game is the monstrous number of ball losses (22). Atalanta will have a hard time keeping their player this summer with such performances!

Charles De Ketelaere (4)

We’re used to better from the Belgian! Not a good game for him, who was put in difficulty by the Turin defense but also by his own choices. He often made the wrong choices at crucial moments in the Bergamasque attacks. He was replaced by Mirantchouk (88th minute).

Gianluca Scamacca (4)

The giant Atalanta striker did not worry the Turin defense. He was not dangerous offensively, but he was very generous in his defensive efforts. He was replaced by Lookman (57th minute).
