Man of the Match: Orban (7)
A real captain’s performance, he gave Vinicius a tough time in a battle of equals, which even came close to a red card for the Brazilian for yet another petulant gesture towards his best friend of the evening. He was in the right place at the right time to put his team back in the race for qualification, with a good header past Lunin.
Real Madrid C.F.: 4-3-1-2
Lunin (5.5)
A few chances to deal with but mostly few shots on target to face. He handled it well. The Madrid goalkeeper was totally powerless against Orban’s header from close range.
Mendy (6)
A good game for him, and especially a good ability to counter-attack, he fed Vinicius and made his team lean to the left side.
Nacho (5.5)
A convincing match but a notch below an enthusiastic Rüdiger.
Rüdiger (6)
He responded to Orban’s captain’s match with a captain’s match of his own. We will remember the double save just before Orban’s equaliser, which he celebrated like a goal, like a qualification.
Carvajal (4.5)
Clearly not the match of his career, he was also very badly placed for Leipzig’s goal, in addition to clearing the ball poorly, which benefited Raum.
Camavinga (5.5)
A decent game, some good tackles but little inspiration. Sacrificed at half-time to change the system, he remained on the bench for the restart, replaced by Rodrygo (5.5). The Brazilian made a good but somewhat timid start.
Kroos (6)
A few missed or even ugly defensive interventions, but an eternal ability to make the right pass at the right time. He was very happy to only be booked with a quarter of an hour to go. He was logically replaced by Modrić in the 77th minute. The opportunity, even with the many injuries, to recall the depth of the bench of this team.
Tchouaméni (5.5)
Not the most flamboyant player, but a lot of work in the shadows in midfield to defend.
Bellingham (5.5)
A very average first half with a rather random positioning in a strange tactical system. Back to normal after the break, which was accompanied by the return of a better Bellingham. Replaced by Joselu in the 85th minute.
Vinicius (6.5)
As too often, he was too nervous, as Orban will testify, and came close to a stupid red card. Lapses in concentration or not, he was the finisher of a remarkable counter-attack led by the inevitable Jude Bellingham and opened the scoring. One chance, one goal. And therefore a remarkable concentration…
Valverde (6)
Always with his 8 lungs, he mopped up the right side even when his team was in trouble, but lacked precision in his shots in his preferred position.
RB Leipzig : 4-4-2
Gulacsi (6)
Not a lot of work to do, but these are obviously the most difficult matches. He kept his cool and concentration to make the right saves at the right time.
Raum (5.5)
Present on his wing to try to bend the experienced Carvajal, he multiplied the good runs forward.
Lukeba (5)
A good match, convincing for the former Lyonnais player.
Orban: See above.
Henrichs (4)
Very imprecise, both in his tackles and his passes.
Simons (4)
We know he can make the difference, he knows it too, but he remains too static. Almost always stopped, he is content to orient the game, does it well, but can really do better…
Schlager (5.5)
A fairly good match unfortunately marred very early with a yellow card at the beginning of the match. Replaced by Elmas in the 85th minute.
Haidara (5)
Average behind, little seen in front, a fairly anonymous match. Replaced by Kampl in the 90th minute.
Olmo (5)
A lack of precision which is notably explained by too much haste. He fails by wanting to do everything too quickly.
Openda (4)
Very, too imprecise, as little success as lucidity for him in front of goal. He misses the mark several times on big opportunities. Replaced by Poulsen in the 77th minute.
Sesko (4.5)
He gave the tour to Openda, who had missed several chances in the first leg, he shows a little less waste tonight but is also less found. Replaced by Baumgartner in the 85th minute.
