Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique made a bold decision on Friday night, substituting Kylian Mbappé at halftime of the team’s match against Monaco.
The move was the first time Mbappé had been subbed off at halftime of an official match for PSG since February 28, 2018, against Marseille in the Coupe de France.
It is unclear what prompted Enrique to make the decision, but it comes amid reports of tension between the manager and the player.
Mbappé has been linked with a move away from PSG in recent months, and his relationship with Enrique has reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks.
The French international was visibly unhappy when he was subbed off against Monaco, and he did not shake Enrique’s hand as he left the field.
It remains to be seen whether the incident will have any lasting impact on Mbappé’s future at PSG, but it is clear that there is something wrong at the club.
