Serie A: Inter Milan Thrash Atalanta 4-0 to Cruise Towards Title

Inter Milan continued their dominant march towards a 20th Serie A title with a resounding 4-0 victory over Atalanta at the San Siro. The win extends their lead at the top of the table to a staggering 12 points.

Despite boasting an impressive defensive record of only 12 goals conceded before the match, Inter found themselves behind early on. A lapse in concentration from Alessandro Bastoni allowed Charles De Ketelaere to score for Atalanta after just 10 minutes.

However, Inter were fortunate to benefit from a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision shortly after. A handball by Atalanta’s Aleksey Miranchuk in the build-up to the goal saw it disallowed.

Undeterred, Inter took control of the game. Matteo Darmian opened his scoring account for the season after Lautaro Martinez’s perfectly weighted pass split the Atalanta defense. Martinez himself then added his name to the scoresheet with a stunning left-footed strike just before halftime.

The second half saw another VAR intervention, this time awarding Inter a penalty for a handball by Hans Hateboer. While Lautaro Martinez saw his penalty saved, Federico Dimarco followed up to convert the rebound.

A late header from substitute Davide Frattesi, assisted by another substitute Alexis Sanchez, sealed the win for Inter.

Simone Inzaghi’s men are now cruising towards the title, with their 22nd win in 26 league games putting them in a commanding position. Atalanta, on the other hand, missed the chance to move into fourth place and are now just two points behind Bologna.
